FAQs
November 5, 2009How does Special Delivery Midwifery’s practice work?
- Prenatal visits will be done in your home (within a 30 mile radius of DeBary or Oviedo). Arrangements can be made for longer distances.
- One of the biggest frustrations of running a practice has been billing and collecting payment from private insurance companies. SDM will no longer accept private insurance assignment as a method of payment. SDM will provide a statement or superbill which can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. SDM can also refer you to a billing service with experience filing and collecting claims for midwifery and home birth services.
- SDM accepts Florida Medicaid, which covers all costs with no out -of-pocket expense for you.
- All fees are the responsibility of the patient and are due in full by the 34th week of pregnancy. Cash, check and major credit cards are accepted.
What is the fee and what does it include?
- The global fee of $4500 includes all prenatal care, routine lab work, birth supplies, continuous one-on-one care for labor, birth and immediate postpartum and two to three postpartum visits.
What does care include?
- Prenatal visits are scheduled every four weeks up until your 28th week of pregnancy, every two weeks until your 36th week, then weekly until birth. Each visit includes measuring blood pressure, testing urine, listening to your baby’s heartbeat, measuring his growth and, as he grows, determining his position.
- Each visit allows plenty of time for questions, concerns and simply getting to know one another. Family and friends are always welcome at visits and sibling participation is encouraged. By the time labor begins, a mutual friendship and trust has developed.
- Services include all routine lab work. Lynn and Karen also order additional testing and ultrasound as necessary or desired.
- When you go into labor, your midwives are with you from the time you’re ready for then to arrive. They stay with you throughout your labor and birth, providing care and support. After the birth they do a complete newborn examination and stay for several hours, making sure both mother and baby are healthy and breastfeeding is well-established.
- A postpartum home visit is done on day two or three, at which time newborn metabolic screening is done and the birth certificate is signed and filed. Another home visit is scheduled for two to three weeks and a final visit is done at six to eight weeks after the birth.
- Finally, Lynn and Karen are always available to you directly to address any questions or concerns that might arise.
